According to research and analysis company GlobalData, 68 mergers and acquisitions were announced by participants in the gaming industry in 2022. Even though that number is significantly lower than the 130 and 111 deals that were recorded in 2020 and 2021, respectively, the combined value of those deals amounts to an astounding $74.4 billion. Compared to $24.9 billion in 2020 and $24.4 billion in 2021, this is an increase. These agreements demonstrate how video games are a work of art that should be taken seriously in addition to being some of the biggest changes in the industry to date.

VMware acquired by Broadcom for $69bn

An international manufacturer of semiconductors, Broadcom also offers software for infrastructure. Those employed in gaming are included. In 2022, it paid a whopping $69 billion to acquire VMware. The US-based business offers multi-cloud services for all apps, supporting digital innovation while maintaining enterprise control.

The acquisition will allow Broadcom to advance its strategy to build the leading infrastructure technology company, with Broadcom having a track record of acquiring established, mission-critical platforms.

In order to accelerate innovation and meet the most complex information technology infrastructure needs, the combined company will offer enterprise customers an expanded platform of critical infrastructure solutions.

Microsoft paid $68.7 billion for Activision Blizzard.

At the very beginning of 2022, one of the largest and most contentious gaming mergers and acquisition deals took place. Tech giant Microsoft announced plans to buy Activision Blizzard in January for a cool $68.7 billion.
